A little about myself...

My name is Mary Bellamy. I'm a character designer/fashion illustrating, animation assistant. I don't usually talk about myself much but that's sort of what this page is for so I'll give it a go. I'm currently 27, though I know most people don't think so because I look a lot younger. Though there's a lot I could say about my background I think I'll stick to the basics below. Thanks for reading.

Work History
As an artist I've been working professionally since 2000. I first started illustrating comics back in 2000 with SFA and several original submissions to existing anthologies. Soon, I was asked to ink for other artists. I moved on to work with Radio Comix for their Mangaphile book with reasonable success and then I moved over to Anarctic Press for some of their anthologies. I've worked on some potential children's books and have worked in animation for the Drew Carey Green Screen Show and animation for the 2008 Olympics. I've been attending the San Diego Comic Con as a professional since 2000. Since then I've freelanced for some friends working with Tokyopop and continue to submit to anthologies. You can find a more extensive list here on my resume or here on my sales page.

Artistic Influences
Animation wise I was heavily influenced by the 1980s cartoons and particularly the girl targeted series like Lady Lovely Locks, Rose Petal Palace and Rainbow Brite and the stuffed toy franchises like Care Bears, Popples, Gummi Bears, Smurfs, and their many derivatives like Paw Paw Bears etc. Later I was very into the Disney Afternoon and what would later be called the Princess line. I moved into Batman, Sonic the Hedgehog and finally was knowingly introduced to Anime with Scifi Saturday and Sailor Moon. For a while I emulated the styles and then moved back to my traditional animated roots in design though I still love the vibrant colors in anime and to an extent 1980's shows. I think characters should have detail over simplicity. I loved toys like My Little Pony and those endless PVC Figurines.
In the more traditional sense I loved Fauvism for it's wild color choices, Impressionism with it's colors, Cubism for it's shape usage. I love Fashion design and costuming. I would have become a fashion designer if I had the sewing skills. But I love authentic costumes as well as modern raver and gothic lolita styles.

Other Skills and Interests
I have been a catering assistant, a baker and cake decorator. I like creating different deserts, despite not being able to eat them any more. I like designing different cakes and creating different sorts of deserts from out of my imagination. I'm also very good with animals and caretaking. I work with the elderly sometimes as an activity director or just talking to the ones that have no families or friends. I enjoy mixing music on my computer and taking a lot of digital photos. I love collecting photo books, architecture books, pvc figures, artwork, zines and comics. I have a graphic design degree so I like to design some logos and retouch photos and artwork.
